IIEST Shibpur vs. NITs: A Comparative Analysis of Engineering Institutes in India

Choosing the right engineering institute in India is a daunting task, especially when there are multiple reputable institutions to consider. In this article, we will compare the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur with NIT Jalandhar, NIT Durgapur, and NIT Silchar. We will also delve into the less favorable perspective of an ex-student.

Introduction to IIEST Shibpur

IIEST Shibpur, established in 1856, is a renowned engineering institution in India. Known for its strong academic programs particularly in traditional engineering disciplines like civil and mechanical engineering, it has maintained a reputable stance within the engineering education sector.

Comparison with Other Institutes

NIT Jalandhar

NIT Jalandhar is well-known for its engineering programs and has a stellar placement record. The choice between IIEST Shibpur and NIT Jalandhar often varies depending on specific programs and personal preferences. Both institutions are highly regarded and offer rigorous academic environments.

NIT Durgapur

NIT Durgapur is another reputable institution, often ranking alongside IIEST Shibpur in terms of academic quality and infrastructure. The decision may come down to specific programs, faculty, and campus culture.

NIT Silchar

NIT Silchar is a relatively newer institution and may not have the same historical reputation as IIEST Shibpur or other NITs. However, it has been making significant strides in improving its infrastructure and placement records, making it a competitive option in the engineering field.

IIITM Gwalior

IIITM Gwalior focuses more on information technology and management, making it a top choice for computer science and IT-related fields. For traditional engineering disciplines, IIEST Shibpur may remain a more fitting institution.

Conclusion

Overall, IIEST Shibpur is considered a strong institution, particularly for engineering, and may have an edge over NIT Silchar and IIITM Gwalior in traditional engineering fields. Deciding between IIEST Shibpur and NIT Jalandhar or NIT Durgapur would depend on specific programs, faculty, and personal preferences regarding campus culture and location. It is essential to consider one's field of study, placement statistics, faculty, and infrastructure when making a decision.

A Different Perspective

An ex-student from IIEST Shibpur shares their adverse experience: It is not a good place if you want to study geology in IIEST Shibpur. The teachers here are very corrupt and do not take any classes. I have never seen a worst institute than this. Since 2018, it has reached its worst level. The hostels are old and pathetic, except for one or two new hostels. There is no maintenance in the campus. If you feel I'm lying, just come and see the place that this institute is located in. You will decide what I'm saying. See the NIRF ranking trend. Do not spoil your precious young years here.

Another ex-student mentions, People smoke like hell here. If you are a person who doesn't smoke, you will suffer through the 4 years. Even most of the teachers here smoke, even while entering the classroom. They also keep a cigarette packet in their pocket visibly.

Based on these personal experiences, it is crucial for prospective students to thoroughly research an institution before making a decision. IIEST Shibpur may not be the best fit for everyone, and it is important to weigh the pros and cons.

Final Thoughts

While IIEST Shibpur is a respected institution, it is essential for students to consider their personal preferences, academic goals, and the overall campus environment. Comparing different institutions and weighing the pros and cons can help in making a well-informed decision.
