If You Had Unlimited Financial Resources and God Asked You to Improve the Human Condition
Imagine this hypothetical scenario: you have unlimited financial resources. In reality, we cannot achieve such wealth, but let's consider the possibilities if we did. Suppose I had just a mere 40 billion dollars, where would I allocate it to make a significant positive impact?
Subsidizing Charities
First, I would redirect a substantial portion of this wealth to subsidize charities at churches around the world. This would not only support religious organizations but also bring greater economic stability to communities in need. Ensuring that these charities can operate effectively and efficiently would be a priority.
Aid for Vulnerable Populations
For individuals at crisis pregnancy charities, I would fund increased levels of help. This might include initiatives such as setting up housing cooperatives to ensure that mothers and their families can secure stable housing. These measures aim to provide a supportive environment for families in need, promoting their well-being and stability.
Trade School Education and Entrepreneurship
Another key area for investment would be in providing free trade school training to students with good academic records. Graduates from high school who demonstrate an aptitude for hands-on learning could enroll in these programs. Areas of study would include a range of trades such as engineering, technology, machinist, HVAC, plumbing, electrician, irrigation, computer repair, auto repair, and phone repair. This is not academic training for university, but rather practical, skill-based education that once played a central role in high school curricula.
For the best graduates, I would grant special assistance to start their own businesses, depending on local financial and regulatory conditions. This could involve providing resources such as business mentorship, funding for initial startup costs, and access to potential investors. By providing these opportunities, young people would have the chance to thrive in the job market and contribute positively to their communities.
Supporting Micro-Lending Institutions
I would also subsidize existing micro-loan charities to support the start-up of small businesses in developing countries and among the impoverished in the United States. For example, a small loan of just 100 dollars could enable someone to purchase a working lawn mower and gas can, allowing them to start a lawn mowing service. These loans would be zero-interest and under a legal contract, ensuring that recipients have a clear pathway to success.
God’s Role in Humanitarian Efforts
While I would take responsibility for these initiatives, it raises the question of what God could do if He felt the same urgency. If He created this world, He has the power to make significant changes.
Imagine a world where hunger, death, sickness, and the need for food and shelter are taken away. Humans would live in a simpler, more peaceful state, free from the challenges and struggles that come with basic survival. No longer would people have to worry about their next meal, no longer would they experience the physical and emotional stress of hunger.
Further, if God could, He could take away sickness and death, allowing humans to live immortal lives. Immortal beings living simple, free, and peaceful lives would be the ultimate manifestation of His power and care. A world without the burden of sickness and death would be a world so fundamentally different that it would be unrecognizable from our current reality.
However, if He cannot or will not do this, then the question must be posed: is He truly God? If He cannot provide for us in our most basic needs, how can He be considered omnipotent? Similarly, if He will not intervene to alleviate the suffering caused by sickness and death, how can He be considered good?
While these are hypothetical scenarios, they highlight the importance of our responsibility and the potential for positive change when we have the means to do so.
Conclusion
With or without divine intervention, the focus should always be on utilizing the resources we have to make a positive impact on the world. Whether you are an individual with limited means or a powerful organization with significant resources, there is always room to contribute to the betterment of human life.
